Sualkuchi silk village

Silk does doe the body what diamonds do for the hand” - Oscar de la Renta

this was the last trip ashore last chance to ride the country boat. Once ashore we were going in a convoy of eTuktuk to travel to Sualkuchi silk village which was about 7 km out of town. 3 to a Tuktuk electric tuk tuk travel slower but no noise or pollution. Lot to see but I was sitting awkwardly so I could t get to my camera. Finally arrive the village a traditional Ahom village these people are from Assam and Arunachai descendants from Tai people found all over south east Asia. They look more Thai than Indian but are Indian. They are known for weaving Mugalsarai silk which is golden in colour. They also have an eco tourist lodges you stay at eating from there organic farm and offer walking tours.

The weaving. Is done by both men and women using the traditional hand and food looms. The quality was very good.

After some snacks and tea (for those wanting it) the villages provided some traditional dance which also had movements similar to what you see in south East Asian.

Back to the country boat and a chance to see a festival scarecrow on the sandbar before enjoying the last lunch

That night we had a dance group join the boat performing dances from Assam some were similar to what we saw earlier that day. The crews bib farewell with more bolloywood moves

That night for dinner we had a thali and as per the other cruise a cake to celebrate the journey.
