“ I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship”

-Rick from Casablanca movie

The drive from Casablanca to Rabat 87 km north. Rabat a Moorish walled city and is the capital of Morocco. The road was windy the landscape the Atlantic Ocean on one site with clean new road and desert on the other.

Rabat is one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. As we walk through the entrance you could smell bread being cooked it made you want just a little bit sadly no tasting. Early in the morning they bake bread for sale then they bake bread for families who bring their own loaves to the bakery . Hot work

The city was ultra and everything was white and reminded you a little of the parts of Greece it was positioned over the Atlantic Ocean . There was a garden full of wonderful fruit trees and herbs that in ancient times would have feed those living in the casbah.

Next a visit to Mohammed V Mausoleum, dedicated to the founder of modern Morocco, grandfather of the current king. The Mauresque-style Hassan Tower and Oudaya Kasbah, along with its palm-dotted Andalusian garden. The guards were men mounted on horses that were changed every 90 minutes they were shaded but it would have still been very hot for them.

Then a drive through the embassy area of town to stop for lunch. A court yard surrounded my vines to protect you under the hot sun. The food was wonderful I forgot to take a photo of the main which was rainbow trout and mash the starter was prawn salad which needed a little more seasoning and dessert a berry macaroon this was out standing. After lunch relax and take a 2 hour drive to Fez
